1962 on Dipity.

1962

Gather ‘round folks and lend me your ear
I’ll tell you the story of a crazy year.
Laughter and tears and excitement galore
1962 was anything but a bore.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was in full swing
The construction of weapons was quite a big thing.
An embargo was placed on all goods from the land
Until the Soviets announced that the missiles were banned.

We all know that Marilyn was the original bombshell
Just ask JFK. He has stories to tell.
It was such a shame that she made her life cease
She’ll never be forgotten, may she rest in peace.

Up until this year, chips were so bland
Lays got together and came up with a plan.
Salt and vinegar flavoring would reinvent chips
And boy was this invention bad for my hips!

Despite lots of southern bigots being very pissy
James Meredith enrolled at the University of Mississippi
A climax in the movement for civil rights
He took African Americans to such great heights.

Independent businesses all started to cower
As super stores began their rise to power.
Wal-Mart and K-Mart both opened this year
The little man was right to be in such fear.

Astronaut John Glen was really out of this world
As he orbited the earth, the Soviets hurled.
Even though they had done it before
We were now even in this great space war.

But what’s the best part of these 366 days?
It might not seem important compared to the craze.
On August 3rd, a day without any drama
A baby was born, who would one day be my mama.
